KENNY SCHARF

Kenny Scharf (b. 1958 Hollywood, LA) is an American painter and worldwide renown street artist. In the 1980s his unique graffiti style gained him notoriety and fame in the New York downtown art scene along with equally celebtated artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Of his production he says: “Part of what I do and what I want to do is I want to bring art into the everyday life,” ... “If you’re just walking in the street and you're confronted by something, that might change your day—it might inspire you.” His approach is based on improvisation as much as on academic tecniques learned while studing at the School of Visual Art in New York City. To this days, many of Scharf’s perky murals still adorn New York streets empahsising his pivotal role in supporting the city's street art scene. He received international recognition as proved by his partecipation at the 1985 Whitney Biennial.
